I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (birthdate 12-10-74, Sagittarius). I went to college at the University of Dayton in Ohio, graduating with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1996. I worked in newspapers for a while, then went back to
school to study history, receiving my master's degree from UW-Milwaukee in 2001, and nearly receiving a PhD from Arizona State University (I got up to the point of writing the dissertation, then just burned out). I learned there weren't very many full-time jobs
in history, so I ended up back in newspapers, but decided again that it wasn't my cup of tea, so I quit to go to work for
a department store, just to pay the bills until something better came along.
In May 2007, Caremark found my resume on Careerbuilder.com, and I got a job working for them doing layout and editing of brochures. I enjoy this job a great deal, and I feel it is
a better fit than the newspaper world.
I also work on the weekends at Sears, as a cashier, and in the evenings as a pet-sitter for TLC ... While You're Away. So I'm busy! But I have to pay off those credit card bills! (A legacy of my time as a full-time grad student who only worked
as a PT grad assistant, and didn't earn much money - so I charged everything.) I'm not too terribly stressed out, though -
my various jobs are manageable. And I enjoy them, so that makes it easier.
Before I took my main job at Caremark, I had already begun studying library science through the University of Arizona's distance learning program as an alternative to journalism, and though I enjoy the Caremark job, I am continuing the program
for the sake of finishing it (and I guess it never hurts to have a "backup" career just in case). My goal in the program is
to be qualified to work for a library or archives. If I ever did switch careers, I would prefer a job with a medical/health
sciences library, since that would be an interesting subject (and those libraries pay well!).
I live in a one-bedroom apartment with my cat, Murray. I have another cat, Simba, who lives with my parents (who have
always been very loving and supportive of me) in Wisconsin. I'm a fan of the Green Bay Packers. I have one brother, Jim, who is in his 40s and lives in Indiana. He has a wife and two children. DIV>
I was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix, but I got out of the habit of attending services during football season, because I wanted to watch the Packers games instead.
:-) Now, I work weekends, so I can't go anyway. So I just remain spiritual in my heart.
And that is a little bit about my background.
