John Rawls would argue that we would not know where we fell in the chain of command in the library, and therefore all employees should be treated with dignity. A utilitarian would argue that treating employees with respect would promote societal happiness. A utilitarian would also state that professional development opportunities would not only please the employees, but would allow library professionals to better serve patrons, thereby increasing societal happiness.
