A consequentialist would state that if a separation were not made between personal and professional
beliefs, there would be negative consequences for society; a library professional could impose her/his own views on society
through selection, display, and recommendation of materials, and thereby deprive patrons of potentially valuable differing
viewpoints. That would be a form of censorship. A natural rights theorist might point to the natural human right to information,
and state that library professionals have a duty to make it available regardless of the library professional's personal views.
A deontologist would agree with this duty-based approach.
