A utilitarian would argue that intellectual property rights are important in encouraging the production of new artistic, written, etc. works; if there is no protection for intellectual property and opportunity to profit from it, there is no incentive to produce it. A natural rights theorist would argue that we are entitled to the fruit of our own labor, be it intellectual or otherwise.
